1. Pune Metro Current Operational Routes
Pune Metro’s existing network connects important areas of Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad through two corridors.
Line 1: PCMC to Swargate
This north–south corridor connects Pimpri-Chinchwad with central Pune and Swargate.
Major stations include:
PCMC, Sant Tukaram Nagar, Bhosari, Nashik Phata, Kasarwadi, Phugewadi, Dapodi, Bopodi, Khadki, Range Hill, Shivajinagar, Civil Court, Budhwar Peth, Mandai and Swargate.
Civil Court is an important interchange station connecting the existing metro corridors.
Line 2: Vanaz to Ramwadi
This east–west corridor connects western Pune with key commercial, educational and residential areas in the east.
Major stations include:
Vanaz, Anand Nagar, Paud Phata, SNDT College, Garware College, Deccan Gymkhana, Chhatrapati Sambhaji Udyan, PMC, Civil Court, RTO, Pune Railway Station, Ruby Hall Clinic, Bund Garden, Yerawada, Kalyani Nagar and Ramwadi.
These operational corridors provide connectivity to major destinations across Pune. Check the official Pune Metro website for current train timings, fares and route information.
2. Hinjawadi–Shivajinagar Metro Line 3: Latest Update
The Hinjawadi–Shivajinagar Metro is one of Pune’s most anticipated transport projects, particularly for IT professionals travelling between Hinjawadi, Baner, Balewadi and central Pune.
Route details
- Length: Approximately 23.2 km
- Stations: 23
- Type: Elevated metro corridor
- Project authority: Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA)
- Main purpose: Improve connectivity between Hinjawadi’s IT employment hub and Shivajinagar.
The corridor is being developed through a public-private partnership.
What is the latest opening-date update?
Recent reports in September and October 2026 indicated that safety-clearance work had progressed, with 17 of the 23 stations reported to have received the required authorisation.
However, the formal launch of passenger services has faced delays. A proposed inauguration on 3 November 2026 was subsequently postponed, and a revised public opening date had not been announced as of 26 October 2026.
Therefore, commuters should not treat 3 November as a confirmed opening date.
The remaining stations and project works are expected to be completed in stages. The final operational schedule depends on the required approvals and an official launch announcement.
Why is Line 3 important?
The route is expected to benefit:
- IT employees travelling to and from Hinjawadi.
- Residents of Wakad, Baner and Balewadi.
- Students and professionals travelling towards Shivajinagar.
- Commuters seeking alternatives to road travel during peak hours.
Once passenger services begin, the corridor could provide an important public-transport option for the western Pune metropolitan region.
Latest status: Awaiting confirmation of the passenger-service launch date.
3. Swargate–Katraj Metro Extension
The Swargate–Katraj extension will take the existing north–south metro corridor further south, improving connectivity for residents of southern Pune.
Project details
- Length: 5.46 km
- Stations: 3
- Type: Underground metro
- Project status: Under construction
Proposed stations
- Market Yard
- Padmavati
- Katraj
The extension is intended to improve access to the metro for commuters in the Market Yard, Padmavati and Katraj areas.
Tunnel-segment casting work was reported to have started in May 2026. An official passenger-service opening date for the extension has not been confirmed in the updates reviewed for this article.
4. PCMC–Nigdi Metro Extension
Pune Metro’s northward extension towards Nigdi is another important project for Pimpri-Chinchwad.
The 4.519 km extension will extend the existing PCMC-side corridor towards Bhakti Shakti.
Latest construction progress
Maha-Metro’s published civil-work status dated 31 August 2026 recorded progress in foundation and pile-cap work, pier construction and segment casting.
The extension is expected to improve metro access for residents and commuters travelling around Nigdi and nearby areas.
Current status: Under construction. A confirmed passenger-service opening date was not available in the latest project information reviewed.
5. Vanaz–Chandani Chowk Metro Extension
The Vanaz–Chandani Chowk extension is planned to take the existing east–west metro corridor further towards Chandani Chowk.
Proposed stations
- Kothrud Bus Depot
- Chandani Chowk
The planned extension covers approximately 1.12 km and includes two stations.
It is intended to improve metro connectivity for residents of western Pune and people travelling towards Chandani Chowk and the Mumbai–Bengaluru highway side of the city.
The project is part of Pune Metro Phase 2. The extension should not be confused with the currently operational Vanaz–Ramwadi corridor.
6. Ramwadi–Wagholi/Vitthalwadi Metro Extension
Eastern Pune continues to experience residential and commercial growth, making improved public transport connectivity an important requirement.
The planned Ramwadi–Wagholi/Vitthalwadi extension will extend the existing metro corridor towards Viman Nagar, Kharadi and Wagholi.
Proposed stations
- Viman Nagar
- Somnath Nagar
- Kharadi Bypass
- Tulaja Bhavani
- Ubale Nagar
- Upper Kharadi Road
- Wagheshwar Temple
- Wagholi
- Siddharth Nagar
- Bakori Phata
- Vitthalwadi
The planned extension covers approximately 11.63 km with 11 stations.
Why is this route important?
The extension is expected to improve access to residential neighbourhoods, commercial areas and employment hubs in eastern Pune. It could also provide an alternative to road travel on busy routes around Kharadi and Wagholi.
The extension is an approved Phase 2 project, but commuters should wait for official announcements before assuming that services will start on a particular date.
7. Pune Metro Line 4: Kharadi–Hadapsar–Swargate–Khadakwasla
Line 4 is one of the major new corridors planned under Pune Metro Phase 2.
The corridor is designed to connect eastern, southern and western parts of the city, including important residential and commercial areas.
Key project details
- Planned length: Approximately 25.52 km
- Planned stations: 22 elevated stations
- Main route: Kharadi–Hadapsar–Swargate–Khadakwasla
- Status: Approved Phase 2 project
The proposed corridor will serve areas around Kharadi, Magarpatta, Hadapsar, Swargate and Khadakwasla.
It is intended to provide better connectivity for commuters travelling between residential areas, business districts, educational institutions and employment centres.
The Union Cabinet approved the Line 4 and Line 4A projects in November 2025. The announced implementation horizon for the combined project was five years.
This is a project timeline, not a confirmed opening date for passenger services.
8. Pune Metro Line 4A: Nal Stop–Warje–Manik Baug
Line 4A is a planned spur corridor connected with the broader Line 4 network.
Key details
- Planned length: Approximately 6.12 km
- Planned stations: 6 elevated stations
- Route: Nal Stop–Warje–Manik Baug
- Status: Approved Phase 2 project
The corridor is expected to improve connectivity for residents of Warje and nearby areas, while providing connections towards the larger metro network.
Together, Line 4 and Line 4A cover approximately 31.64 km and include 28 elevated stations.
The projects are planned to connect major employment and residential areas while improving access to existing metro corridors.
9. Pune Metro Phase 2: What Can Commuters Expect?
Pune Metro Phase 2 includes extensions of the existing network as well as new corridors.
The major planned projects include:
- Vanaz–Chandani Chowk.
- Ramwadi–Wagholi/Vitthalwadi.
- Kharadi–Khadakwasla.
- Nal Stop–Warje–Manik Baug.
Alongside these projects, the PCMC–Nigdi and Swargate–Katraj extensions are progressing as extensions of the existing network.
These developments are intended to improve connectivity between residential areas, IT hubs, educational institutions, railway stations and commercial districts.
However, each corridor has a different approval, construction and commissioning schedule. There is no single opening date that applies to every Phase 2 project.

Conclusion
Pune Metro’s expansion plans could significantly improve connectivity across Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad. The Hinjawadi–Shivajinagar corridor remains particularly important for IT employees and residents of western Pune, while the planned extensions towards Katraj, Nigdi, Chandani Chowk and Wagholi aim to bring metro access to more neighbourhoods.
The proposed Line 4 and Line 4A corridors are also expected to improve connectivity between Kharadi, Hadapsar, Swargate, Khadakwasla, Warje and surrounding areas.
For commuters, the most important thing is to distinguish between operational services, projects under construction and corridors that have been approved but are not yet open.
Mi Punekar will continue to track official announcements and report confirmed updates about Pune Metro routes, stations, opening dates and new developments.
