Pune Metro Line 3: 17 Hinjawadi-Shivajinagar Metro Stations to Open First – Check the Complete List

Pune commuters have an important update regarding the much-awaited Hinjawadi-Shivajinagar Metro (Pune Metro Line 3). The inauguration of this metro corridor is planned for November 3, 2026, bringing a major development for commuters travelling between Hinjawadi IT Park and central Pune.

However, passengers may not be able to access all stations from the beginning. Out of the total 23 stations on the corridor, passenger services are planned to start at only 17 stations during the first phase. The remaining six stations, including Shivajinagar, will initially remain unavailable for passenger operations.

Here is the complete list of operational and temporarily closed stations, along with details about the project.

Hinjawadi-Shivajinagar Metro: Project Overview

The Hinjawadi-Shivajinagar Metro project has been developed to improve connectivity between Hinjawadi IT Park and important areas of Pune city.

The corridor connects major locations, including Maan, Hinjawadi, Wakad, Balewadi, Baner, Aundh, Savitribai Phule Pune University and Shivajinagar.

The project is expected to benefit thousands of IT professionals, students, office employees and daily commuters who regularly travel between Hinjawadi and Pune.

Complete List of 17 Hinjawadi-Shivajinagar Metro Stations Opening First

According to the reported first-phase plan, passenger services will initially be available at 17 out of the total 23 stations.

Here is the complete list of stations where passengers are expected to board and get off during the first phase.

  1. Maan
  2. Maan MIDC Circle
  3. Maan Bus Depot
  4. Hinjawadi Phase 2 – Circle 2
  5. Hinjawadi Phase 2 – Circle 1
  6. Padmabhushan Chowk

  11. MITCON – Balewadi
  12. R. K. Laxman Museum – Balewadi
  13. Aundh
  14. Sakal Nagar
  15. Savitribai Phule Pune University
  16. Agriculture College
  17. District Court, Pune

These 17 stations are planned to provide initial passenger connectivity between the Hinjawadi area and central Pune.

Six Metro Stations That Will Remain Closed Initially

Although the entire corridor has 23 stations, six stations will not be available to passengers during the initial phase.

As per the reported information, pending construction work and the required safety clearances are among the reasons for their delayed opening.

List of six stations that will initially remain closed:

  1. Balewadi High Street
  2. Balewadi Phata
  3. Baner Gaon
  4. Baner-Pashan Link Road
  5. Bhosale Nagar
  6. Shivajinagar

The non-availability of these stations means commuters in some parts of Baner and Balewadi will have to depend on alternative transport arrangements until passenger operations begin at these locations.

Why Will the Closure of Shivajinagar Station Affect Commuters?

Shivajinagar is one of the most important transport and administrative hubs in Pune.

The area provides access to several government offices, educational institutions, courts and public transport facilities. It also has an important railway station.

However, the Shivajinagar Metro station is among the six stations that will initially remain closed.

Passengers travelling towards Shivajinagar may therefore need to get down at another operational station, such as District Court, and use buses, auto-rickshaws or other transport options to reach their destinations.

It is important to note that District Court and Shivajinagar are two separate metro stations.

What Does This Mean for Baner and Balewadi Residents?

The Hinjawadi-Shivajinagar Metro corridor is expected to improve connectivity for residents and employees in Baner, Balewadi, Wakad and nearby areas.

However, the initial closure of Balewadi High Street, Balewadi Phata and Baner Gaon stations could limit direct metro access for commuters living or working in these locations.

Passengers may have to travel to the nearest operational metro station using private vehicles, buses or auto-rickshaws.

This also highlights the importance of last-mile connectivity, which will play a significant role in making the new metro corridor convenient for daily commuters.

Hinjawadi Metro Project: From Foundation Stone in 2018 to Inauguration Plans in 2026

The foundation stone for the Hinjawadi-Shivajinagar Metro project was laid by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on December 8, 2018.

The project, estimated to cost approximately ₹8,313 crore, has faced multiple delays since its announcement. Its completion timeline was revised several times.

The corridor is considered an important infrastructure project for Pune, particularly because of the growing number of employees travelling to and from the Hinjawadi IT Park every day.

With the inauguration now planned for November 3, 2026, commuters are waiting for the commencement of passenger services.

Four New Pune Metro Corridors to Receive Foundation Stone

Along with the planned inauguration of the Hinjawadi-Shivajinagar Metro corridor, the foundation stone for four proposed metro corridors under Pune Metro Phase 2 is also scheduled to be laid.

The proposed corridors are:

  • Corridor 2A: Vanaz to Chandani Chowk
  • Corridor 2B: Ramwadi to Wagholi
  • Corridor 4: Khadakwasla to Kharadi
  • Corridor 4A: Nal Stop to Warje-Manikbaug

These proposed routes are expected to expand Pune’s metro network and improve connectivity between several important residential, commercial and employment hubs.
