As Punekars gear up to welcome the New Year, the city administration has implemented special traffic arrangements to manage the heavy rush expected in popular areas. Routes have been altered, and traffic restrictions are in place to ensure smooth movement. Here’s a detailed guide to help you navigate Pune’s roads on New Year’s Eve.


Traffic Diversions in Pune

  1. Mahatma Gandhi Road (MG Road):
    • Closed: 15th August Chowk to Aurora Towers Chowk.
    • Diversion: Traffic rerouted via Khureshi Masjid and Sujata Mastani Chowk.
  2. Volga Chowk to Mohammad Rafi Chowk:
    • Closed: No entry for vehicles.
    • Diversion: Traffic redirected to Indira Gandhi Chowk via East Street.
  3. Indira Gandhi Chowk to Mahavir Chowk:
    • Closed: Complete traffic restriction.
    • Diversion: Vehicles rerouted to Lashkar Police Station.
  4. Sarbatwala Chowk to Mahavir Chowk:
    • Closed: Traffic not allowed.
    • Diversion: Alternate route via Tabut Road.
  5. Kothrud to Fergusson College (FC Road):
    • Closure Point: Traffic halted at Khandujibaba Chowk.
    • Diversion: Use Vidhi Mahavidyalaya Road, Prabhat Road, and Alka Cinema Hall.
  6. Junglee Maharaj (JM) Road:
    • Closed: Traffic from Jhansichi Rani Chowk.
    • Diversion: Routes via Gokhale Smarak Chowk, Pune Municipal Bhavan, Omkareshwar Mandir, and Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Road.

No Vehicle Zones

  • Good Luck Hotel to Fergusson College Main Gate: Complete no-vehicle zone.
  • ISKCON Mandir to Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Road: No traffic allowed.
  • Towards Aurora Towers: Traffic prohibited.

Parking Restrictions

  • No parking on Fergusson College Road and Mahatma Gandhi Road from 5 PM on December 31 to 5 AM on January 1.

Police Deployment and Monitoring

To ensure safety and manage the crowd, a large contingent of Pune Police has been stationed at major locations. The restrictions will be in effect until the crowds subside. Citizens are advised to cooperate with authorities and plan their travel accordingly.
